An Ode To College Parking Services

School is hard and so is parking.

An Ode To College Parking Services

As college students, we are all very stressed with trying to balance school work, a social life, and other responsibilities that come with being an adult. We spend four years trying to figure out who we are are and what we want to do for the rest of our lives. Throughout the years we go through good times and bad, laughter and tears, love and heartbreak. One of the biggest heartbreaks I encounter is when I turn the corner in a parking deck and someone already has their blinker on waiting for a spot. Parking on campus has caused me to cry, angrily hit something in my car, and explicitly yell at someone else in another car. So please, parking services, help us students out by making our lives a little less stressful.

Here's to you guys:

* * *

As summer comes to an end and the school year is near,

Suddenly our inbox becomes a mass of emails that appear.

They tell us to sign up for this and buy some of that,

Our parents ask how much it will be, and we have a little chat.

There is one email that takes the cake,

For draining our pockets and being the biggest ache.

The email from parking services will make you sigh,

That little parking pass is so expensive to buy.

You pay $280 for a little sticker that will ruin your window,

And the chances of you actually finding parking are very low.

You leave for class an hour early patrolling the lots,

Only to find that there are no spots.

Parking on campus is a game we all have to play,

It can cause you to have a good or really bad day.

You try your best to stalk someone walking to their car,

It will probably be a crappy spot and also pretty far.

There's a good chance you've had a parking fine,

There goes $25 you could have spent on wine.

Some people rack up multiple tickets each year,

Yet when it comes to parking, they have no fear.

A professor will not like the excuse that you are late,

When you couldn't find parking and left it to fate.

So plan accordingly and know in your mind,

That it will be parking that is hard to find.

You would think that as the university continued to grow,

More parking would be built and it would show.

That there would be a spot for every student at the school,

And parking would progress and be a lot less cruel.

As for now the problem that affects us all,

Is not finding parking and then having to bawl.

Missing a class or test causes a lot of stress,

And as students, we're already a mess.

Dear parking services please help us out,

We'd love to find parking without a doubt.

So here's to hoping our lives will be better,

I hope change happens and it starts with this letter.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
