A Week In My Shoes

Aside from hanging out with friends and not drinking enough water, here is what a week in my life is like.

A Week In My Shoes

Ask yourself this question, does your week start on Sunday or Monday? In my own life, a new week starts on Monday morning and ends on Sunday.

Now that I am in college, I have a schedule with long breaks and long days. I will vaguely put this in perspective but my week gradually gets simpler. I'll have classes and meetings Monday through Wednesday and then only two classes Thursday and Friday.

Monday's typically aren't my favorite day of the week-as most agree-however I just enjoy every moment I can. I start off by waking up at 8:20 am and going to my first class at 9 am. In which I have a small break until my next class from 11 to noon. After my second class is over, I go to the dining hall and get some lunch with my friends. Righ around 4 pm, I go to our Student Union for my RHA (Residence Hall Association) meeting.

Taco Tuesday. As always, I attend my classes and take notes. I can't get my lunch until around 1 pm, this lasts for about 20 minutes. I then get ready to go to my last class of the day at 2 pm. I have yet another meeting from 5:30-7:00. At this moment I realize I haven't had dinner. Late-night dining hall hours here I come, the food may not be good but cereal is always a mood.

It is Wednesday, my dudes! Wake up at 8:20, go to class and eat a granola bar. After I get some food in my stomach and am finished with class, I will hang out with some friends and then review notes from my classes to go back and highlight important words and phrases. I can't forget...I have another meeting-my small group-that meets every Wednesday night. My small group is the young men I am glad to be growing through my faith with through college. This concludes my Wednesday.

Pre-Friday? I had mentioned this in the beginning, my schedule gets progressively simpler throughout the week. I go to my 8 am class without falling asleep. I typically go back to my room and sleep for an hour or two. With all this free time on my hands, some of it I will spend studying my notes and flashcards. The other free time I may find myself in is with my community and friends.

Friday, more like Fri-Yay! I only have two classes on Friday's which allows me to be done at noon. Having this with me throughout the semester is beneficial since I could leave after classes and head home to Kansas City to see my family. Since I am done much earlier than my friends, I have to occupy myself and find some things to do while I wait for them to be done. These time consumers include; doing laundry, cleaning my room and people watching. I usually then hangout-again-with my amazing friend group.

Just maybe, I might drink more water too...if I can fit it into my schedule

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
