It's the season of relationship goals—meaning, the season of "Wow, Tyga and Kylie are my relationship goals." The thought never occurred to me to consider someone else my relationship goal, other than using it ironically or sarcastic. I never actually thought Barack Obama and Michelle were relationship goals, even though they look damn good together.
Because at the end of the day, their relationship is not anything like the media portrays. What if they are completely different? We are considering false pretenses our relationship goals. As much as I may admire a relationship (Drake and Rihanna) I don't want to be anything like them. I don't want to aim for what they have, I want to have my own version of what Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen have. I want to have my own Chris Pratt and Anna Faris goals.
For a second, let's just be realistic. No relationship is the same. Chris Pratt might get Anna flowers everyday to show his affection, because that is what they do. Obama may never get Michelle flowers, because he shows it by getting her a ring. Drake may not ever get Rihanna a new purse, he may buy her some rosé though, depending on the situation. I don't like flowers, at all, so my significant other would not show his affection in that particular way. Why put him on a platform where he feels like he has to even do those things, rather than being himself?
I mean, relationship goals are cute and fun on social media, but I know some twelve year olds on Twitter really think it should be that way. They really think a relationship should be like the ones you see, even though they are all different than one another. You may not do anything the same in one relationship that you have done in your past relationships. People change and all people are different in showing what they like and who they like and how they show how much they like / love you.
Everyone should have their own version of relationship goals that they define themselves by what they want a relationship to be. Life is all about how great someone else makes you feel and how great they express that to you in their own way. That is why you love them, that is why you like them, that is why they are yours. Because they do those cute things that no one else does - things that Drake does not do for Rihanna. Things that you don't watch Chris Pratt do on Twitter for Anna. Things that make you seem special, because you are.
And, someone will make you feel that way without the relationship goals.
Trust me. It's a wonderful feeling.
