Do's And Don'ts Of The 'Sophomore 17'

If you haven't heard of the sophomore 17 in college– I promise it's real. And everyone who didn't fall for the freshman 15: Congratulations, but you have so much more coming your way. Yes, the cafeteria and Student Union have some mouth watering choices for you to grub on while your stomach rumbles, but you just wait to see what happens when you can cook your own food in your own kitchen and lay in your comfy, big bed from home until you finish binge watching four seasons of Young & Hungry. Laying in bed becomes an easier trick to fall for and the motivation gets lower and lower to workout. Therefore those calories just sit in your stomach and accumulate weight. This then leads to pounds on pounds and eventually the sophomore 17 (yes it's a thing.) And we all know that just makes everyone unhappy and your self confidence becomes way lower. In that case, here are some do's and don'ts to avoid the inevitable college weight gain.

1. I know that brownie looks good, but don't eat it. (Unless you had a bad day or got a good grade on your test, then you deserve it.)

2. When you feel like you want a second helping but you're already full, don't eat it and you can save it for leftovers the next day.

3. Walk as many places as you can. Yes that includes walking to the fridge, or walking to the oven.

4. Don't have a party with a piñata and empty all the candy into a big bowl in your living room. You WILL eat it even if you tell yourself not to.

5. If you want a distraction from your homework, go work out but bring your computer and binge watch that show that you always are dying to watch. (boom, being healthy and still being able to keep up on your show!)

6. When you get on the scale and see no weight gain you know you're doing it right.

7. Eat some fruit. If that means you have to dip your strawberries in chocolate, do it. At least you're eating half right.

8. Eat lots of greens: salad, broccoli, and asparagus. (Yes that includes green candy, green ice cream or green icing.)

9. Do some crunches after each bite you take of that delicious brownie brittle or a couple push ups after each iced animal cracker.

10. Lastly, if you gain a couple pounds here and there, don't worry just embrace it.

In the end, not everyone can come out of college the way they looked when they began and that is A-okay. Just believe and know that you're awesome and everyone loves you for who you are and not what you look like.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
