We Need To Stop Believing Everything We Read Online

Not all of it is true

Ever since the Coronavirus came to America, another virus has come into play and that is misinformation,

There have been many conspiracy theories about what might have caused the virus to happen. Whether it be about Bill Gates microchipping us, the government created the virus to kill the weak, the 5G fiasco the conspiracies just never end. I am a journalism major so fact-checking has become a thing that I need to be skilled in so the main reason I have been looking up conspiracy theories is to debunk them.

The most recent one is a documentary called "Plandemic" which has already been taken down from YouTube several times. I will not post the link because it will very likely be taken down again. I have friends who have shared the video claiming that is it is the truth and that the government is responsible for the virus.

Honestly, some of these theories have been making me anxious but not in the way that you think. Its the fact that people would take the time out of their day just to say something that may or may not even be true.

Featured in the documentary was Judy Mikovits who has been trying to insert herself in the COVID-19 narrative since late March. Basically, she claims to have worked for Dr. Fauci in the past, this woman is also a huge anti-vaxxer and has had many claims that were later proven to be false. Why would you believe someone who has had many false claims in the past please think about who is making the claim before you share it on Facebook?

Believing everything that you hear is only adding to the anxiety that we are all feeling right now. Imagine how it would make your kids feel when they are already missing so much, imagine how it makes your immunocompromised loved one feel making them think that there are people out there that are out to get them.

You tell us to wake up but in reality, you are the ones that need to wake up. Get some facts from actual doctors and nurses. Stop always reading the death count. Find some more reliable news sources, and don't be getting your info from YouTube videos that have been taken down for a reason. Listen to the people that actually work at hospitals some of them may be your loved ones who have seen the action and know the facts.

Instead what you can do is make a difference in your community. Make some masks for those who may need it the most, donate to local food banks, spend your money on small businesses and local restaurants who may need it the most.

There are so many ways that you can spend your time in this quarantine, and giving your friends and family more anxiety with those theories is not one of them. If that same person told you to drive your car off a cliff would you do it, I mean I wouldn't so then you shouldn't believe what they say about this virus. Listen to the ones who know what they are talking about.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and read reliable news!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
