Don't Wish Away The Good Old Days

"I say we make the best of this time."

College is weird.

We are smack in the middle of finding our purpose and it can be challenging. We are not full grown adults yet, but we also do have so much more freedom than we used to. We are not right where we need to be quite yet, but we are far enough along to where we might know what we want.

I also feel like college is filled with a whole lot of waiting. All of life really is of course, but in college, we are waiting for grades and our schedules and if we get into programs. We are waiting for scholarships and financial aid. We are waiting until the end of this semester… and then the next. We are waiting for the weekend or until summer vacation. Until we get that job or that internship. We are waiting until we graduate to come into full bloom, and as I’m writing this I’m realizing how silly it sounds. Yeah technically we cannot get certain jobs until we have a degree, but that is no reason to just keep waiting.

I say we make the best of this time. Maybe we are having to wait for grades or to get into a program, but that time does not have to be wasted. College is short (even though it does not seem like it now), and before we know it we will be done. I think it is so important to do as much as we can as college students.

We can pick up hobbies and find things that we are passionate about. People always say that college is the best 4 years of your life and I think it’s time we start making that true. Life will be different once we graduate, and honestly maybe even better, but I don’t think that is any reason to rush through this stage in life. We are able to learn and grow so much. Now is when we really are able to become who we are, and I think that is something special to hold on to.

I hear people all the time saying that they are so ready to get out of college and into the real world. I actually am one of those people, but I don’t want to be anymore. I want to embrace this stage of life and take it for all that it is: confusing and stressful, but also full of great experiences.

Being a little over halfway done will college has me at this weird stage of life. I am in too deep to back out, but I'm not close enough to the end where I can see it. I am thankful though for this weird stage of life, because all I can see is what is in front of me, and I really don't have many complaints. I bet if you looked at your stage of life and really thought about where you are, you wouldn't be as restless to graduate and move on. Yes, college may be hard, but it has so much to offer and I hope you are able to find that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
