Sadly, it’s too late in the political year for a third party candidate to gain enough attention and support to have a legitimate chance of winning the election. This is not to say that there aren’t any viable candidates outside of the two major parties, however, the election is only in a few months, and mainstream media has given little to no attention to any third party candidates.
While there are a few good options, such as Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, votes for him or other minor party candidates would likely be wasted. While it would be ideal to be able to vote for another candidate who could realistically win, doing so would only take votes away from Hillary, making the possibility of a Trump presidency much more plausible, an alternative I strongly urge this country to avoid.
Therefore, we have to make the unattractive choice of electing the lesser evil, an unfortunate but inevitable predicament. We have come to a point, as a nation, in which we must decide if we want to guided by a leader or ruled by a dictator, if we want a president who could potentially benefit society with practical policies, or someone who’s platform is almost completely reliant on fear-mongering and discrimination.
But regardless of the outcome, this election has definitely highlighted the severe inefficiency of maintaining a strictly bipartisan government.
