Don't Stress Over Senior Year

Congratulations Class of 2017! Welcome to your last, and most stressful, year of high school! By this point, everyone is already bugging you about college and majors and what-nots. Teachers are stressing over your scholarship applications, and everyone is giving their own input on what's best for you. Truth is, only you know what's best for yourself.

Some of your peers have already decided on their careers and what colleges and sororities they are going to. Others are probably more interested in starting their own families pretty early and caring for their children, and that stresses you out. You're not even sure what you're going to wear today, and your family expects you to have a forever career decision. No one has prepared you for these moments, and it just hits you like Muhammid Ali. You think that just because everyone else has it figured out, you're suppose to.

Over all, you only know what's best for yourself. Keep in mind, plans change. Your classmates that think they have it figured out have no idea. Things can happen in an instant that can change your complete output. Things aren't always going to happen the way we plan for them to be. If you're an OCD person, like myself, you might as well give up on having the perfect college plan. If possible, I could have a PhD in "Living in the Moment."

Besides work, my senior year was nothing but scholarship applications and English paper writing. The only thing I ever made time for was for sleeping and eating. While everyone had anticipated that senior year was suppose to be filled with fun and reminiscing, I don't recall at least one fun thing about senior year. So from somebody who's been there, start living in the moment. Laugh and surround yourself with people who love and care for you the most during these last few months in childhood. Start worrying less about the perfect life and worry more about the perfect memories. No one can ever take these last few moments away. These will also be the memories that you will miss the most and will look back on two years after graduation thinking, "Man, I really miss those carefree days." You blink, and you're already starting as a college freshman.

So it's okay if you don't have a plan. Just because everyone else has a plan doesn't mean that you're suppose to have one. Expect the unexpected, and enjoy these last couple of months in grade school. Spend a little more time with your family and friends. Leave the grudges and rumors in eleventh grade. Stay focused on your grades, and have a great last year of high school.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
