I can't imagine my college life without my weekly yoga.
It started as a way to just utilize those "free" fitness classes that are included in tuition. I would go to relaxation yoga on Wednesday nights. It was easy and close by, so I made it a weekly occurrence. Sophomore year I would go to yoga on Monday afternoons. But my reasons changed a little. It was still easy and close by, but I started to cherish that hour of peace and mindfulness that it provided me.
While I don't have much time now to make it to an actual class, I make sure to take at least 15 minutes out of my Mondays to just do some yoga and breathe. Sometimes between classes, jobs, and extracurriculars you just forget to take a second and focus on yourself. Whether it's 15 minutes or an hour, doing yoga or watching a TV show, take a break from it all.
Sometimes your free time just needs to be for yourself. I know, you're thinking "I'm in college, I have no free time." While we're all busy with studying, working, and socializing, there are still plenty of moments where we can take some time for ourselves. It's as simple as putting in your headphones on the way to class and just enjoying the walk or stepping back from your homework and taking a breath.
College is stressful and like study habits, you just have to find a way to relax that works best for you. My go-to is yoga but I have friends who just prefer naps. No matter what you like, just find a way to take a second to breathe.
