No, College Isn't Just High School All Over Again
Stony Brook

You're right. We all need our lives, but we also need our success. We have all come this far to get into Stony Brook University, and we wouldn't want to take things for granted. As I have always told myself, it is never too late to do the right thing.

Let me offer you guys a piece of advice. I may come off as arrogant and annoying, but I just want the best for everyone. One thing that that really bothers me are the frat parties on campus. And don't get me wrong, you can have fun. But if you think the only way to have fun is getting drunk dosing off on alcohol, and grinding on random strangers, let me offer you one piece of advice.

One other thing: what's the deal with the "Sac Loop?" I get it, it's an organizational thing. The frats and the sororities want to keep the location a secret, to prevent cops from finding out, or to keep out nosy students who want to tattle. But isn't safety the key? True, I may be overly cautious and whatnot, but like I said, I want everyone to be happily safe.

Going off into the night looking really cute all for just jumping into a suspicious looking car "blindfolded" is the last thing we want in trusting the administration and the people on campus. I never said to not go, but don't go there JUST for the mystery and the fun. Go with a group of people you know that can protect you and stay together, and always have a backup plan. You don't want to be that person that has no way to leave the party and your friends all abandoned you.

But I'm not going to ramble on about the things you should watch out for at Stony Brook University. (That might be an article for another time). Here's the thing: college is a place for new beginnings. So, don't screw it up.

It isn't high school anymore. Don't spend all your time gossiping about everyone else and go out of your way to make one person's life a living hell just because of that one small mishap during a school project. Just because someone nudged you by accident. Just don't. Life is so much bigger than that.

It shouldn't be a rude banter back and forth just because some girl stole your boyfriend. I came from a tiny high school with a graduating class of 102. Back there, everybody made up rumors about everyone else because people had nothing "fun" to do. And because of that, they felt that it would be entertaining to spread rumors and make fun of people. Even the most genuinely kind person would get picked on.

I lived in such a small world, and so my mind was narrow up to the point when I believed that there was no such thing as kind words, kind bantering, friendly greetings, or an open hand. But now that I am here in Stony Brook, I believe in the best, that something as small and unimportant like rumors should not be the central role on campus. It should be meeting new people, living in the cultures of people, and learning different skills to make the most of your life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
