You're Too Young To Play It Safe

Do something crazy

You're Too Young To Play It Safe
Ross Findon

There is so much pressure to be on the 'right' path. It's like we've all be taught to conform to one lifestyle. Go to high school, get good grades, go to college, graduate college, get a job, get married, get a house, have kids, save for retirement, don't change career fields, etc. Nothing is wrong with any of those things, but constraining success and training yourself to 'play it safe' is dangerous.

You are far too young, too smart and too important to play it safe. So you've always wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, second-grade teacher. But, now you've changed your mind, that's ok. You're not 'too old' to still have dreams or ideas. You can still be an artist, astronaut, full-time mom if you want to be.

You don't have to be one thing either. For the love of everything good in the world DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT 'stay in your lane.' Join theater even though you've always been an athlete. Learn an instrument, a language, a hobby. Try something new and be crazy. You have so much time. And even if you don't, you should spend every second loving what you do, and more importantly, loving who you are.

Screw playing it safe. Quit your job, change your major, study abroad, do that thing that you've always dreamed of and pushed off into the back of your head. Seek some adventure, a thrill. Discover something that makes you feel oh so alive. Pick up a paintbrush, a boxing glove, a camera and enjoy this life. There's so much life to live, so many amazing things to so stop being afraid of it.

Dream big, fail hard, rise more. Embrace failure like your kindest thing. Fall in love with things, fall out of love with them, but at least try them. You never know what you might find out there that is created for you to love.

You are never too old, too young, too inexperienced to try something new. No matter where you are in life you are too young to 'play it safe.' What's the point of being comfortable if you never did anything worth talking about?

You need stories to tell, memories to hold onto and passions to keep you going. So get out there and find them. You were not made to be mediocre, comfortable or restricted. You were made to be extraordinary.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
