We are better than what is happening to us

Most people know what is happening in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina right now. Not good, am I right? Yeah I am sure the world is staring at us right now in pain and maybe even shame. How can death cause such emotional reactions when there is 1000 times worse stuff going down in the Middle East? Is it because this hits close to home? Maybe that is the reason, but we need to figure out exactly who and what we are fighting for and who we are fighting against.

When I say we, I mean we as a nation, not just a city full of people who hate has now divided them. You think that there is a pass to destroying a city simply when justice has again and again not been served, but morals still stand and it is cowardly to destroy instead of rebuild. Nothing has been gained over the past couple years since these became more headline worthy. The reason people think this is okay is beyond control.

Anger makes people do crazy things, but it almost confuses me that literally thousands of people can have the same rage and keep it for days on end. Maybe ignorance plays that part in me because I am not there to see it myself. I am two hours away from violence and maybe my mistake is mixing up chaos with change.

These people are desperate for change because they are scared. They are scared because they don't see change in the near future. They see a life of always being under someone else. But these people are not just one race or one gender, they are a generation that has gotten used to violence within their own streets and not feeling safe within themselves.

This is a perspective that many people take: calling these people hooligans who have no self-respect and no respect for the people who are called to protect them in their times of need. This I can tell you is not true. This world we live in has seen change but is this so different from any other revolution we've faced?

Violence and danger aren't new to us but to have it hit home makes it real. It isn't something we are reading in a history textbook, we are living it. This word hate has been thrown around for some time now but who is it that we hate? Do we hate the ones that oppress us or the ones that set us free? Well, I can tell you that people don't exactly get over things easily. People are resilient and they are strong but this isn't being strong, it's being afraid. They are fighting back against a system they feel corrupt. A person can be corrupt as a system and I think they are fighting people, not the system. That's where the real fight is because everyone is different and judging people based off their uniform, much like the color of their skin is wrong, seems kinda hypocritical, right? Bet you didn't think about that did you? That maybe a few bad seeds don't make the uniform, just the person?

Life is short, fight for the cause you believe in. Fight the good fight, the one that's going to help people and bring us together, not tear us apart. Learn to overcome hate, because hate has now divided us.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
