Spot Light On The Homeless Population

Recently I watched a video about a man who was on crutches dressed very nice with a briefcase. Whenever he fell, the people who were around him helped him up. Every time he slipped with his crutches people were there to offer assistance when he was wearing a suit. But later on the same man was dressed in a winter coat, had sweat pants, carried a sleeping bag and a cooler, while walking with crutches. He was supposed to be symbolizing someone who was homeless. Whenever he fell, the people around him stared at him or kept walking. Even when he tried to get up with his crutches, no one helped him. Towards the end of the video, he fell one last time, and a man who was homeless helped him up. What does this say about society today? Do we really live in a world when people only help others if they look sophisticated?

The video was a test to see how people would react to that person. While watching that video, I couldn't believe what I saw. Those people only helped the man when he was dressed in a suite but not when he looked homeless. It goes to show that people only care about people's status and if they're from a high class. More people than I thought don't even care about homeless people. A person would think people would be kind and helpful to people who are homeless, but several people aren't. People often help people who are in their social class, not people who are "inferior" to them.

In the video, the homeless man helped the man who fell. In my opinion, he helped the man because he knew what it was like when people didn't help him. A lot of people shy away from helping homeless people, and I'm not sure why. I think they don't want to acknowledge that some people don't have places to live because the United States are supposed to be one of the richest countries in the world, but our poverty level is high. There are some people who are homeless who are veterans and served our country. But people want to help our veterans before refugees, but they don't act on that. Instead we pretend that people aren't homeless and we walk by them without helping or even lending a listening ear.

I never would've thought people could be so cruel and ignorant towards people who are homeless. It seems like a lot of people know what's going on, but they don't bother to help because they don't gain anything. With the man who wore a suite, they helped him because they thought he had money. But they wouldn't gain anything from helping a homeless person. It seems like people will only help others if something's in it for them, they won't do it out of the kindness in their hearts. Society today is way different from the past, because in the past people helped everyone in need.

Why do people continue to ignore things around them? They never picture someone else in their shoes, because they've never been in that situation and they don't think they ever will. We all need to start helping people because it may seem like a small gesture to you, but it could mean the world to them. It shouldn't matter how a person's dressed in order to lend a hand. Anyone could have bad intentions whether their wearing a suite or if they have holes in their coats. Never judge a person by their appearance because they have a story, you'll never know if you don't lend a hand.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
