I'm usually not that into politics. I don't want to get into fights with other Americans over their beliefs, and how our government should be changed. But this is a topic I feel strongly about, and I think others should too.
I feel like I'm the one lone person that isn't into politics, and doesn't think that it should be so excessively talked about with NFL players and American citizens not standing for the National Anthem.
Yes, I have American pride. I cry every single time I even hear the National Anthem being played, I cry when I see homecoming videos of soldiers returning, I cry on the FOURTH OF JULY. I'm an emotional mess when it comes to my amount of pride I have for my country. That is not the issue here.
The issue is that individuals freak out that just because an NFL player doesn't stand when the National Anthem is played, it means that they aren't "true American."
First of all, they could be injured and not be able to stand. Or they could feel as though the emotion is overtaking them and they don't think they can physically stand for it.
Second of all, I don't think it should be forced by the NFL teams that their players are required to stand. It could be a religion that each player believes in that they choose not to stand, or they could feel as though they can respect America more sitting.
Finally, just because the players aren't standing it doesn't mean they aren't grateful for the soldiers hundreds of years ago and in the present that have fought for this country and our freedom. They could just dislike Donald Trump. He has said some awful, harsh, mean things about this country and what it stands for. Who would WANT to stand for that?
So from one American to another, please stop talking about how wrong it is for individuals to not stand for their country.
