When you are diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, your whole life changes. It's almost as if all the air is stolen from your lungs. You sit there and can barely move.
Personality disorders tend to get a worse reputation than mental disorders do. You see, personality disorders are undetectable. More often than not, you realize that you cannot control your actions.
While mental disorders affect the way that you think and act, personality disorders affect the way that your entire life and relationships are formed.
Your disorder, in some form, becomes the only thing that some people see in you. When you tell people about it, they automatically assume that you are insane.
In movies, they often portray people with borderline personality disorder as murderous and dangerous without realizing that there are many different ways that it affects different people.
The way that I am personally affected is in my ability to deal with anger. Much like bipolar disorder, I can go from happy to livid in a matter of seconds. In my mind it doesn't matter who you are, if I am actively suffering from my disorder, I will lash out at anybody with absolutely no guilt until long after the fact.
The truth is that none of us are crazy. If we could just avoid our disorder, we would. However, it's just not that simple.
Under no circumstances are you allowed to call me crazy because of my disorder. Please do not think less of me as a person because of something that I did not ask for and frankly, do not want.
