Don't Be Afraid Of Your Dreams

Your goals are never too big to accomplish.

At my high school graduation, our student class president spoke to us and one of the first things she said was that every day, we should get up and make our bed.

When she first was speaking about it, I really didn't understand why she said that. As time went on, I kept this with me. I made my bed. Most, if not every morning. It wasn't until now, I finally understood why.

When I get up and make my bed in the morning, I have accomplished one thing. I am ready to start my day because I have done one thing right. As my day goes on, I get the things I need to do done.

Whether it is going to class, work, errands, or even something big. Somedays, I get it all accomplished. Other days, I don't. But at the end of the day, I have a reminder that I did something today. I made my bed.

As little as it sounds, we all struggle with being goal driven every day. There are those days where you plan to get as much done as possible, achieve new things, reach those goals.

Other days, you will try to do all of that, but you might fail. Things might not go as planned. Those days are what get us down, and they could possibly lead to us lowering our goals.

That is the exact opposite of what we should do.

We all have goals for ourselves, sometimes bigger than we imagine them to be. Bigger than we think we could ever possibly reach. That is okay because, with the right attitude, nothing can stop you from achieving those goals.

But you have to push yourself to get there. You have to push past those bad days, you have to get past the difficult times, you have to work with all the rejections and people that say no.

You are your own person and you know what you are capable of.

Nothing is too big. Nothing can hold you back from the one thing you want more than anything. Don't let the fear of failing stop you. Because you will fail, probably a dozen times. But the failures are what teach you the most.

Those are the times you can step back, reevaluate, and try again.

It only makes you a better person when you fail.

Because once you succeed, you will look in the mirror and know that you deserved it.

You deserved it after the long road of hard work that it took you to get you where you are.

The main point of all of this is to not let your goals scare you. No matter how big your dreams are, or how crazy your goals seem, you can accomplish them.

The road might be scary, difficult, almost seem impossible. But nothing is impossible if you want it bad enough.

If you take anything away from this, make your bed in the morning. It is one step closer to helping you achieve something every single day.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
