It's okay to not know what's next.
As a New Yorker, a college student, someone who hasn't left my house since March 14th, I do not feel like a human being, and life is unexplainable right now. Are you feeling isolated? Don't know what's next–at all? Sick of feeling helpless? Frustrated towards the world? Me too! We all are! And I'm tired of harping on it! I'm tired of the news revolving around this virus and its effects and it is the only thing anyone can talk about. But it's our reality, at least for the next few months. So now what? How can we cope as jobless students that are victims of crippling debt and worsening mental health problems? We must find small ways to cope during our every day!
Get started on your passion project!
Now is and has been the absolute best time to start something new, to dive into something you have been putting off. Now is not the time to be scared or question your dreams, goals, or even your future for that matter. The unknown is always scary but as Million Dollar Listing New York star Ryan Serhant said in his recent YouTube video, "Right now is the absolute best time to start. The best companies, the most innovation has come from a place of complete fear because that's the wall that your back is up against. Right now is the best time to start because of the level of fear and what you will bring to the table during these times."
The world has always been scary and intimidating, right now, it's even more so. Dreams, goals, to-do lists, have also always been a weight on one's shoulders. Right now, as Ryan Serhant says, it is the absolute best time to get started and to channel your fear, frustrations, anxiety, into something positive, something that will elevate your life.
Easier said than done, I know.
Yes, following your dreams of opening a restaurant or skydiving in another country may not be the most feasible right now, but there are always steps you can take at home, in your mind, to get you there. Plan! Sit down and organize what you want to achieve and how you're going to do it. What's the timeline? What steps in what order are you going to take? What kind of mindset do you need going forward to get that dream job, to get to a better mental state, or to reach your fitness goals? I wish I could provide a relatable, specific example to whoever is reading this, but there is an endless amount of ideas I could throw you. Take a minute to brainstorm about what you want in life, what you're working towards-- that's what you need to focus and work on right now.
Everyone has a passion project waiting to be put into play. Take this time to find it! Quarantine may be slowly and temporarily ending, but there is still time to invest in yourself and your goals, especially if you're in college or just graduating. You are at the perfect time in your life to starts–do not be lazy and put it off! Ryan always says, "Ready, set, go!"
