Stop Wishing For What's Next, Focus On The Present

You've probably heard it ten thousand times, but once you actually need it, that's when it'll make the most sense. I'm talking about living in the moment and being present in everyday life.

Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, just take a deep breath and soak up the moment you're in. This can allow you to realize how far you've come, but also help you to realize there's so much more in front of you too. It's meant to put things in perspective. Please, whatever you do, please stay young. You do not need to rush your years and act older than you are. Please do not wish the days away, for summer to end, for your next birthday or tomorrow. Enjoy the time you have right now, right where you are.

The funny thing about life is that you cannot go back. There are no re-dos. So those days that you wished would fly by- they do, they fly by and once they pass they are gone and will only be a distant memory.

I can personally say that I always look for what's next, anybody who knows me know's I live off what is coming next. I plan out how my whole life is going to be. I say if I'm not married with children by 30, then I'm doing something wrong in life. But I've learned to stop it, everything happens for a reason and things will fall into place when it is the time for it.

Experience this beautiful life that you have been given. Live for today- not for tomorrow or for the day before. You cannot predict the future but you do have the ability to take control of it and make it what you want. There is no time like the present to do the things that you want to do but in that remember, you will only be the age you are in the moment that you are in.

We spend our time thinking about the future. Planning for tomorrow. All this will do is stress you out more and take away from now. Thinking about tomorrow is only going to take time away from today. We miss out on so much from doing this. It's a hard habit to break, I know. But if you start today, I promise you will begin to realize and appreciate even the small things.

I was scrolling through social media, and found this touching quote:

First I was dying to finish high school and start college.
And then I was dying to finish college and start working.
And then I was dying to marry and have children.
And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could return to work.
And then I was dying to retire.
And now, I am dying…and suddenly I realize I forgot to live.

That quote is the true reality we're all living, we always jump forward and we always wait for things to come. But, break that..stop waiting for something to come along, take everyday as a day to be thankful for waking up, and explore within the day you are in.

Stop and take a minute to realize that you're right where you used to plan to be. We all understand how precious life can be, and no day is ever guaranteed, so live for what is happening now.

Take one day at a time, the past still remains as a history, and the future will still be there. Just breathe, and take in your sights today.

"Stop acting as if life is a rehearsal. Live this day as if it was your last. The past is gone and over. The future is not guaranteed."
-Wayne Dyer

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
