We were road flares
in the monsoon downpour,
burning bright and strong
through the starless night,
but somewhere along the way
we lost our spark
and sizzled out,
and you left with the caps.
So, for now, I'll stay
on the side
of the flooded road
calling payphones until
you get the message to
come home to the
would-be warmth
of our new eternal flame.
