You are a walking story
Pages torn like when you skip over a topic
Eyes heavy with the weight of seeing travesty
What a tragedy
That we don't look like what we've been through
But we sound like what we overcome
You speak like a preacher
Authority in your voice, bass in your shout
I cringe when you read your book
For my eyes have never seen so much beauty and pain in the same person
You are a walking story
People have disregarded you based on your length or cover
Or color
But I read it, I will read you, and I will love you like a book I can't put down
A book that is such an interesting read, like you are a bestseller
Like you have a noble prize stamped on your cover
I will read you cover to cover until you realize
You are worth the read
That you are worth the long hours and nights
You think you are a tough read but I think you have had soft readers
You think that I will put you on a shelf, in a genre, label you with the other fiction novels
As if I don't know your story is real
But you are a category all your own
Both human and hero
Dying and surviving all in one
I'm not saying that I can take away the pain
But I promise I won't leave until the pain does, too
You are a walking story
