Today was a normal day: I went to school, had a normal schedule and came back home to do even more school work. However, today my teacher asked us a unique question; my teacher asked us all to write down one problem that we would like to fix and the steps we would have to take to solve it. For ten minutes, I was thinking that there are so many problems that I could fix, from world hunger to pollution, but they all are so big, it would take forever to fix them. But after a lot of thinking and reasoning, I reached one problem I wished to fix: trying to get nice and fancy clothes for the people that can not afford them. This problem has been one the I have wanted to fix for a while now, and even though it is a big problem, it is definitely one that I could potentially fix with a lot of help and teamwork.
The way I would fix this problem is that I would first make signs to bring attention to this problem. The number of clothes that are wasted can easily be enough for many families to have a clothing supply for a month. Using the good clothes that people donate, these families can then wear them to job interviews. This could possibly even try to lower the poverty rate. Because more people have a professional look then for companies will hire them, then the rate will go down. Maybe not drastically but it would be better than what we have now.
After putting the signs up, and telling the people about the problem I will tell them where they can donate their clothes. It would be places that people visit often, for example, Kroger, Publix, Walmart, etc, and the best part is that people can donate yearlong. Also, it will not just be clothes that the people can donate they can donate anything they want like toys. We all know that children do not use all these toys and books, so it would be better to give them to others who truly want them instead of just simply throwing them into the garbage.
After a certain amount of time after people have donated their things, I will find a good organization that I can give all of the donations to, so they can donate it to a third-world country. After doing this I think people will gain some realization as to what is happening in our country nowadays and how much people waste daily. In addition, they will feel good that they were able to help others because if we do not help each other, who is going to help us.
Overall, that was the problem that I wanted to solve, giving and donating more to others. It is a problem that I always wanted to solve because most organizations have these, but they tend to keep it for a shorter period causing fewer people to donate. Alternatively, other organizations only accept monetary donations, causing even fewer people to donate because they do not know where their money might go, and they do not feel safe. I know there are still things I have to figure out, but these would be the basic steps I would follow.
