Regardless of whether you are a Trump supporter or not, Donald Trump's most recent speech to the United Nations a couple days ago was, arguably, one of the best speeches he's given. It was clear-cut, to the point, honest, and he called issues out for what they were.
Many statements in his speech resonated with me and many others, here are just a few:
"As President of the United States, I will always put America first, just like you, as the leaders of your countries will always, and should always, put your countries first."
Yes. Just, yes. This statement is generic and obvious, but I feel like it doesn't get said enough and is almost shameful to say nowadays. A country's government should always put its country and its citizens first; just like if there was a flood in your neighborhood, you would make sure your family was safe before helping others.
This statement also makes his immigration policies clear: we cannot open our floodgates to everyone and anyone. Yes, the plight of refugees does matter, but letting in radicalized refugees who engage with and support ISIS will only lead to the decimation of American society and our citizens.
"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea. Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime."
Kudos to Donald Trump for calling it like it is. Kim Jong-Un is nothing but a child playing with some devastating nuclear missiles. North Korea's totalitarian regime and unregulated use of nuclear warfare need to be stopped, and there are only so many diplomatic solutions and sanctions we can impose. I'm not calling for an all-out war, I'm just predicting the inevitable. Time and time again North Korea has shown its unwillingness to corporate, and sanctions upon sanctions have been layered. Whatever the outcome is to stop North Korea, it's not looking good and it doesn't seem like more diplomatic solutions will stop "rocket-man."
"The Iranian government masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy. It has turned a wealthy country with a rich history and culture into an economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos."
I'm just mentioning this because when Trump started roasting Iran, the face of the Iranian ambassador taking it all in was priceless.
"We have learned that, over the long term, uncontrolled migration is deeply unfair to both the sending and the receiving countries."
If you doubt the idea that uncontrolled migration is a horrible idea, just look at what's happening in Sweden and France. These countries have become filled with no-go zones that are dangerously violent. Previously, these no-go zones were peaceful towns and cities, but in a matter of months, they became ghettos and ghost towns filled with gangs, violence, rape, and murder. Again, the Swedish and French governments have failed to take in the interests of their citizens first and this is what happens.
There are many other sections in his speech where I wanted to scream "Hallelujah!" and rejoice. I've got to say, I wasn't a Trump supporter then and I'm not a Trump supporter now, but I'm not going to antagonize everything our president does. This was a moment where I was proud to have a president that so clearly articulated the issues plaguing our world.
