Since Donald Trump has been elected as our next President, he has now begun to choose who will serve inside his cabinet. While I did not expect anyone truly dazzling, I was curious as to how corrupt or crazy his cabinet would turn out. Seriously, we really could have had Ben Carson, Chris Christie, and some other loony faces from the republican establishment in Trump's cabinet. Yet, sadly after finding out who exactly is been chosen I kind of wish it was Ben Carson or Chris Christie because now we have lobbyist and white nationalist.
The attorney general position has been filled by republican senator Jeff Sessions. While I had made a "Top Ten Most Disliked Republican Senators" article in the past, it is worth mentioning Jeff Sessions just barely did not make the list. Having been accused of racism throughout his career, it almost completely derailed his career in 1986 when his former colleagues testified against Sessions "using the n-word and joking about the Ku Klux Klan" and also saying he thought they were "okay, until he learned that they smoked marijuana". In addition to being a blatant racist, he has a history of being a war hawk, because we always need to fight another country and send young men to die for a corporations benefit, at least according to Sessions. While his voting history on war is egregious, it pales in comparison to his immigration stance, which is anti-illegal and even legal immigration. He literally wants America to be home of the white and the racist. To top all that off he is also a climate change denier. You really can not do worse then Jeff Sessions for any leadership role.
The director of the Criminal Intelligence Agency, or more commonly referred to as the CIA, has been assigned to Mike Pompeo, a tea party republican from Kansas. This anti-gay republican may not be as horrendous as others on this list, but he still can depress more than half the nation with his voting record. Anti-gay marriage, pro keystone pipeline, anti solar and wind, are among the most prominent concerns while assessing his voting record. While none of that news is comforting, he is not anti-Obamacare which is one nice silver lining in this very dark sky.
The white house national security adviser position will be handed to Retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn. A self described pro-life democrat, he served in the military from 1981 to 2011, where he then retired. And he is leaving retirement now to join Donald Trump's cabinet. While I could not find that many details on Mike Flynn, I was able to uncover that an intelligence consulting firm founded by retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, was recently hired as a lobbyist by an obscure Dutch company with ties to Turkey’s government and its president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. While the details are shrouded, no promising circumstances are to be expected.
The position of Secretary of State has been designated to Rudy Giuliani, former mayor of New York City. Coincidentally, Rudy is a three-time married man just like his friend, Donald Trump. These two men have had a close relationship since the beginning of Trump's campaign and it is time all that sucking up will pay off for Giuliani. Of all the possible people to be in Trump's cabinet, Rudy Giuliani was the most likely because of the dynamic relationship between himself and Trump. Regarding Giuliani's political views, however, he seems to have it out for "indecent art" to the point that he appointed a decency council. He also lobbied to cut aide to New York City Schools and more. While that is daunting, he is at least pro-gay and pro-abortion, and also does not support prayer in schools which will hopefully balance out the rest of the cabinet which is extremely attracted to theocratic ideologies.
Donald Trump's secretary of the treasury will supposedly fall into the hands of Steven Mnuchin, a man who worked at Goldman Sachs for 17 years. Here, we get to see the start of Donald Trump running back on all the promises he made during his campaign. For those voters who truly believed he was out to help the common man: this is your wake up call. A professional banker and movie maker, Steven Mnuchin, is the true example of the slime ball in American politics. A political fundraiser who supported Hillary Clinton has now switched sides to serve Wall Street using Trumps administration. It's ironic how this man directed a movie called "Rules Don't Apply" because he seems to have that mindset when it comes to Wall Street. This is one of the scarier picks in Trump's cabinet, as this man headed a bank that was known for shady foreclosure practices.
Understand that these are not quite set in stone, so changes may occur in these appointed members. Next week I will cover the remaining and unfilled spots on Trump's cabinet. While I am trying to hope for something better than what we have seen here today, I am not holding my breath.
