I'm Done With Donald Trump's Blatant Lies That He Is Making The World SO Much Better

The president creates a false image of himself being a hero in his State of the Union address.

Donald Trump has been the President of the United States for a year now. This past week, he stood in front of America and gave his second State of the Union address. Trump began this speech by stating that on the night he took office “a new tide of optimism was already sweeping across our land.”

Personally, I have no idea what optimism Trump is speaking about. I remember seeing anger, hate, and sadness all across the nation — this was not an optimistic day for many people in the United States. He went on to say that he and his cabinet have since gone forward “to make America great again for all Americans.”

“For all Americans.”

That’s where my issue lies.

Who are all the Americans that Trump is improving life for? Who are these people? Because from my point-of-view, the only people Donald Trump and his cabinet are improving life for is those that have similar socioeconomic backgrounds to himself.

I really do not understand how this man has the delusional idea that he has or continues to improve life for the majority of Americans.

He has ended the DACA program, putting nearly 800,000 children and young adults at risk of losing college admission and the ability to work in the United States, among other things. Many Trump supporters will argue that this is beneficial to the nation as these people are undocumented, but these young people will lose their protection if they are caught committing any criminal activity.

For most of these Dreamers, the United States is the only home they have ever known. To deport them to a country they most likely do not remember is inhumane.

Additionally, the Republicans’ Tax Bill finally passed in December under Trump’s administration. This bill cuts taxes for corporate America and the wealthiest Americans; why do the richest people in the United States need a tax cut? Trump is widening the gap between the rich and the poor and eliminating the middle class, but he believes he is helping Americans.

Along with this bill being passed, it repealed a portion of Obamacare. This will result in insurance premiums rising even more leading to more sickness in the United States as people will not be able to afford health insurance. The United States under the supervision of Donald Trump is a place where hatred flourishes and the rich, white people have superiority over everyone else.

While Donald Trump holds the presidency, the United States will not be a beacon of optimism where life is great for all Americans. If Trump wants to make these claims, he better change his policies to reflect that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
