After the Supreme Court ruled Friday in Obergefell v. Hodges that states cannot bar same-sex couples from marrying, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took to Twitter in his customarily oblivious fashion, and composed the following nonsensical masterpiece. Recall that in this 5-4 decision, Justice Anthony Kennedy joined the court's liberal wing, affirming same-sex marriage as a right, while Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the dissenting opinion.
So Roberts voted the way Trump wanted him to, and yet the ruling is somehow Roberts' fault, and by extension it's also the fault of Trump's Republican rival, Jeb Bush. Because why, exactly? Because not-President Jeb Bush nominated Roberts for Chief Justice in 2005? Nope. Because not-Senator Jeb Bush voted to confirm Roberts as Chief Justice? That's not it either.
Quite obviously, Trump's beef here should be with Kennedy, and by extension with the dearly departed Ronald Reagan, who appointed Kennedy to the Supreme Court in 1988.
