Fear should never be the prime preventative factor as to why you do not try something new or even attempt to do something again. Oftentimes fear, unfortunately, is the prime factor that directs whether you choose to live one way versus another. One negative outcome of allowing fear to hold you back from living is all of the missed opportunities and lessons that you will never get to personally experience. Additionally, the best experiences usually occur when you least expect them to, arising from situations that once had you so intimidated that the thought of not partaking had frequently, and seriously, crossed your mind multiple times.
I am not saying that everything that scares you must be attempted; however, it is important that you do take risks and try new things because the greatest lessons result when you will least expect them to. Leaving your comfort zone is the best way to grow, but you need to find a good balance that works well for you. If you decide to slowly tiptoe out of your comfort zone, then great; take all of the time that you need to ease into doing something different. If you decide to get a running start and leap out of your comfort zone, all without looking back, then good for you; your courage and enthusiasm to try something new is definitely an admirable quality. Either way, no matter how you do it, you will benefit tremendously from leaving your comfort zone.
Although, it is easier said than done. Fear is inevitable, and that notion is incredibly intimidating. However, being afraid is a natural feeling and nothing to be ashamed of or think that you need to hide. By embracing the feeling of fear, you can accomplish more than you ever thought possible as opposed to trying to ignore the unsettling thought that there are things in this world that contribute to all of those nerves. Once you begin operating in the mindset that fear is actually an important motivational factor to persevere rather than a reason to quit, then you will change how you live on a day to day basis.
First, determine what ideas scare you the most; then take a deep breathe, go out into the world, and do everything in your power to accomplish it. Even if you do not succeed, or if the results are not as you preferred, be proud of yourself for leaving your comfort zone and trying something new; you have gained knowledge about an experience that you previously did not have that will now assist in the shaping of your personal development and perception of the world, and that is a rewarding feeling.
