Why You Should Not Care About Being Liked By Others

If you care about what others think, then you cannot do the things that you want and have to do.

It is hard to not care about being liked by others. If you care about what others think, then you cannot do the things that you want and have to do.

Here is one example of this consequence. Students have to work hard because of college and their teachers. Colleges use grades to determine if the student is the right candidate for the college. Teachers care about their students' grades. Some teachers scold them for not doing well and look down at them by saying that they are dumb. From this, students work hard because they fear the colleges and teachers. To get a good grade, they spend a lot of their time studying. However, they do not give themselves time to do other things that they want and should be doing like extracurricular activities, jobs, and internships. Unfortunately, these activities are important when it comes to job and college applications because these applications will ask them questions relating to their experience.

Another example is bullying or harassment. Some people do not stand up for themselves because the bully or harasser has a relationship with someone that they know (marriage or friendship), has a high reputation or authority, or could hurt their loved ones. Some people also think that people will not believe them, the people that they ask for help will make the situation worse, and their loved ones will not like them anymore. If you are scared, then the bullying or harassment will never stop. If it does stop but does not get reported, then it will haunt the victim for the rest of his or her life. The victim will regret that he or she did not stand up for themselves. By the time he or she wants to stand up for themselves, it is too late because the past cannot be changed and the bully or harasser will not remember what he or she did (unless it is severe crimes like rape, sexual harassment, and hit-and-run because those crimes can be reported anytime). Also, the person will have a hard time forgiving the bully or harasser. Regret, wounds, and unforgiveness can make the person sick in the future because he or she cannot handle the stress that comes from these three negative factors. The victim can become a bad guy as well by becoming what he or she hates.

From this article, do not let other people stop you from doing the things you want and have to do. However, those things have to be the right things, not the wrong things. If someone is bullying or harassing you, then please report it. If there is someone that you are scared to report it to, then report it to someone else that you can trust. You must reveal all the details no matter how scared how you are so that the person that you report it to will help you. Say the bully or harasser's name, how you feel, what you think, and who the bully or harasser will retaliate, harm, or use to go against you. If your loved ones do not believe you and do not like you anymore, then they are very terrible people. You have to let go of them and find better people.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
