Most college students think of spring break as a time to escape to the beach for a week-long party. Others see it as a time to escape college and go back home to spend a week with their family and friends at home. For me and my three best friends, we did something completely different than what most college aged kids do, something that usually only families with younger children do: we went to Disney World. We booked a room at Port Orleans Riverside for two nights in the Royal Suite and spent three fantastic days at the parks. Three out of the four of us who went are cast members, but we usually don’t have a whole lot of time to go play in the parks between school and work. The four of us also haven’t gotten to spend time together at the parks, so we figured this was the best way to spend our time outside of school. It was honestly the most fun I have ever had over spring break and I wish it could have lasted longer.
When we told our friends of our spring break plans, some figured that we would be spending some time at Disney, while others were questioning why we wanted to spend time where little kids like to go, rather than doing the typical college spring break. The four of us had originally tried to plan a week long road trip with some other friends, but it would have taken too long to plan and ultimately cost more than a Disney "staycation." In the end, Disney was really the best choice for four best friends who all share a love for Disney.
On the first night, we had a combined birthday dinner for me and one of the other girls at Whispering Canyon Café and it was the most fun we have had while eating a meal together. We were allowed to be loud and have fun, unlike other places where being loud and obnoxious is a bad thing. At the end of the meal, we got cupcakes and after everyone sang happy birthday, the waitress picked up my cupcake, took a bite, and walked away. It was the funniest thing to happen there that night and we definitely made sure our waitress knew we had a good time (after I received a fresh, uneaten cupcake).
Port Orleans Riverside was honestly the most beautiful resort and I could have spent the whole three days there. We spent a little bit of time at the pool, and I spent all that time in the hammock, watching as clouds passed by overhead. It was so relaxing and I just forgot about everything for a little while. Our room was beyond amazing. I am a huge Disney Princess fan, so this room was one I never wanted to leave. There were pictures of the princesses on the wall, silhouettes of the princes on another, the Magic Carpet on the floor, and a very magical headboard. With the push of a button, the headboard erupted into lights, simulating a nighttime fireworks display. We pushed that button quite a few times during our stay because it was just so magical and made the room way more than worth it. So while everyone else was tossing back shots or beers with their 100 hundred closets beach buddies, I was enjoying the best three days of my life with my three best friends at the happiest place on Earth.
