Disney Shows Aren't As Great As I Remember, And I Am Heartbroken

Disney+ brought all our favorite childhood shows back but they aren't what I remember.

For us late 90s babies and early 2000s, our childhood was marked with funny 22-minute sitcoms like "Lizzy McGuire," "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," "Hannah Montana" and other shows we seemed to idolize before puberty set in.

Thanks to Disney+ the newest streaming service, all our childhood favorites are brought back right onto our screen. When I heard about the new site, I was psyched, mainly because it would house the Lizzie McGuire revival, and that really is "what dreams are made of."

But here is the thing, watching these shows as someone getting close to her college graduation made me realize why my parents always smirked at the television before shaking their head to leave the room, the acting was horrible.

Yep, I said it. Although I remember looking fondly at the TV with my friends and screaming our heads off when Troy and Gabriela finally kissed at the end of "High School Musical 2," the shows I thought I loved so much just aren't the same.

Recently, I was watching an episode of "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," and although I thought the plot was funny, I couldn't stop critiquing the Sprouse twins and their childhood acting, plus the laugh track was painful. I kept asking myself, how and why did I ever think this show was good?

We have all seen those memes comparing the old Disney shows to the new Disney shows. Recently it occurred to me, maybe the shows haven't degraded, but perhaps we have just become more critical.

We are comparing shows we used to love as children to shows we think are immature because we are adults. Do I still think "Kim Possible" beats out "Liv and Maddie" yes any day, but I wonder if I would still love the Disney shows I grew up watching as much today as someone in my 20s versus when I was watching them while in elementary school?

Am I still happy Disney+ is around to show this new generation known as Generation Alpha (2010-2025) what actual television is- absolutely? Am I happy to see all Disney Channel Original Movies available at my fingertips, you know it.

Still, am I worried rewatching them will knock them off the pedestal I put them on in my head- unfortunately, yes. Does that still mean I am going to watch it, particularly the Lizzie McGuire revival, of course! Having fun watching the Disney Channel.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
