Being the Disney fanatic that I am, I have watched so many movies, and each disney movie has in some way impacted me. Whether it has made me realize something that I had never thought about, or if it struck a chord with me emotionally, Disney movies have always held a special place in my heart. However, there has been one specific movie that did so much for me. This movie impacted me in a way that no other movie has ever done. The movie had hit me in such an emotional way, and it gave me such an inside look into my life and how I felt.
Back in the summer of 2015, Disney Pixar released a movie called Inside Out. This movie has a huge central focus on these 5 little characters: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. In case you have not caught on at this point, all of these characters are meant to represent our emotions. I don't want to spoil the whole movie, but the main plot of this movie is that Riley, the human these emotions are a part of, is having a difficult time figuring out her emotions after moving to another city. Joy, who was always Rileys go-to emotion, is trying to get back to Riley and make her happy again, but at the end of the day, it ends up being Sadness who comes to the rescue with Riley. This movie takes a huge role into exploring emotions, especially as we get older and go through rough times.
So, why does a movie about emotions hit me so hard? This movie and the characters in it is something that I can emotionally relate to almost on a daily basis. I have always been the type of person that tries to have Joy in my life every single day. Happiness is an emotion that everyone wants to feel, and we want to feel it all the time. However, sometimes I have to remember that we can't actually feel happy all the time. Sometimes, we just have to feel sadness in order to get through certain points in our lives. This movie did the most wonderful job showing me that it's really okay to have emotions.
I've always tried my best to hold in every other emotion that wasn't joy. I was always the person that would pretend that everything is fine, and that it wasn't okay to express emotions that weren't positive. Even to this day, I still sometimes hold everything in until it gets to a point where I just kind of, you know, explode. Trust me, emotions are hard, confusing, and difficult to deal with sometimes. There are times where I just feel angry or I just start crying uncontrollably and I have absolutely no idea why. Whenever I feel emotions though, I always think back to this specific movie and it helps me feel comfortable with the idea that every emotion that we have is completely okay and normal. This movie taught me overall that its really okay not to be okay sometimes.
If you have not watched the movie Inside Out yet, I 110% recommend watching it. Ever since I got Disney+ I've gone back and watched this movie many times, and each time it never fails to bring me to an emotional state. This movie is excellent, and does an amazing job at portraying emotions and feelings as a whole.
