Stop Discriminating Against Millennials

So what I'm obsessed with Instagram.

As a Millennial, I get a lot of slack. I see posts on social media about how much Millennials suck and how stupid they all are. We're too attached to our phones, entitled, "snowflakes", and a million other generalizations. It's pretty frustrating to see so much hate coming from older generations, and even some people in my generation. But, I have a few things to say about that.

In one of my Sociology classes, my professor was discussing generational differences during his lecture. He is an old, hipster dude who probably went to Woodstock. He said something that I had never thought of before. He pointed out that if we think we're the first generation to get hate, we're so wrong. Literally, every generation has been hated by the one's older than them. And guess what? When we're old, we'll be complaining about the young generation existing then. So, when you talk badly about the millennial generation, you look dumb. You look dumb because at some point in time, when you were a student complaining about college loans, the old people living down the street were complaining about how entitled and annoying you were.

Also, is it insane to think about the societal differences between millennials and baby boomers? When the baby boomers were going through college and graduating, the cost of living was so much less than it is now. The economy was in good shape. Baby boomers could graduate from college and immediately get a job in the field they wanted, no problem. They would maybe pay off loans for another 5-10 years and everything would be fine. And you didn't even need a college degree to get a job during that time. Now, if you want to get a professional job, a college degree is just as important as having all four of your limbs in tact.

So, yes. Some of us are believe in free education, most of us are in favor of LGBTQ rights, and a lot of us think the gender wage gap is bullshit. We know that a tattoo sleeve has nothing to do with a person's work ethic. We love our iPhones and care an awful lot about our Instagram accounts. All we're trying to do is live like the rest of all the old and bitter people out there who we will one day become. We just want to get a professional job, maybe an education, and not have to sacrifice our lives to do so. All we want is the same easy access to life as the baby boomers did, but we have to fight the harsh circumstances.

If you ask me, it sounds like the millennial generation is doing pretty well. And yes, there are still plenty of millennials who don't believe in any of the stuff I've said above. That's the great thing about us, we're diverse and have many different beliefs/skin colors/wants/dreams. So, before you bash an entire generation on a hasty stereotype, I encourage you to sit back and think of not only the people who discriminated against you when you were our age, but the stinkin' kids who we will complain about when we're old and retired.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
