This is the beginning of a new virtual adventure. Whether you're a Nashville native, never heard of it or visit every now and then, this is for you. There will be five parts. In each part, I will inform you about 4 different neighborhoods in Nashville.
Berry Hill is the first neighborhood on our list. It is best known for the locally-owned businesses lining the streets. The businesses are operated out of 1940's cottages.
When you travel to Berry Hill, here are a few ideas for dining experiences. The Sunflower Café is a restaurant that is Vegetarian and uses fresh, local products in its dishes. The Pfunky Griddle is a restaurant that offers breakfast and lunch. It is a fun experience where the guest has the opportunity to cook their meal, but do not have to purchase the ingredients or clean up the mess. However, if you have a sweet tooth one afternoon, head on over to the Pied Piper Creamery for unique ice cream flavors such as, Trailer Trash, 'Ol Glory, and Eat Your Heart Out, Elvis.
Berry Hill is known for its small businesses, most of which include antique shops. Taylor Swift highly suggests to visit Gilchrist Gilchrist for chic, vintage antiques. She bought a ton of items from there to decorate her apartment. Beaded Bungalow is a mom and pop shop who specializes in beads and jewelry. They are known for their beautiful, unique jewelry and bead designs.
Belmont Blvd
It is the perfect neighborhood to explore if you go to Belmont University, since it is in walking distance from campus.
Shawarma is a Mediterranean restaurant that allows you to customize your dish by choosing each part of your salad, bowl, or sandwich. PM is an Asian-inspired restaurant that has a sushi bar and options for a vegetarian and a carnivore. At Martin's BBQ, the food and sauces are made fresh daily. Except for the barbecue itself, it starts roasting the night before to be perfect for the next day.
One of the more popular shops located on Belmont Blvd is House Of. The shop is full of clothing and house decorations from local designers. Belmont University entrepreneur students partnered with Nashville Fashion Alliance to open this store and make it a possibility. House Of recently replaced the clothing company, Feedback.
8th Ave South
It is primarily known for the antique shops that line both sides of the streets, but this is not all that 8th Ave South has to offer.
The Smiling Elephant was voted "The Best Thai Restaurant in Nashville". It is known for its exotic flavor combinations and authentic dining choices. The Urban Juicer is a juice bar that uses fresh fruits and vegetables and even organic when possible. This is a nice, healthy alternative if you're on the go. Smokin Thighs is a restaurant that does not fry their chicken at all. They simply smoke it, lather it with your preferred sauce, and then throw it on the grill to finish it up.
If you love wearing stylish pieces on your head and want a custom hat to strut, visit HatWRKS and customize your own hat to have a one-of-a-kind. If you enjoy Volunteer Traditions, but you didn't know they had a store then SURPRISE! There is a Volunteer Traditions store on 8th Ave South. Grimey's is filled with vinyls, CD's, and DVD's that are new and used.
12th Ave South
It is the last neighborhood for this week. It is a neighborhood that is in walking distance of Lipscomb University (Go Bisons).
Las Paletas is a nice popsicle place to visit if you need motivation to go on a run and you're close to 12 South. There is truly a flavor for everyone, regardless of what taste you like. They have seasonal, traditional Mexican, and customer suggested flavors. Burger Up is a burger joint that inspected their suppliers intricately before choosing who would supply them with ingredients. Their ingredients come from local farms who practice sustainability and humane treatment of animals. Urban Grub is a restaurant that offers a laid-back environment with a diverse menu.
Draper James is an upscale boutique that was created by Reese Witherspoon and gives back to Girls Inc. Like Draper James, Judith Bright gives back to the community that surrounds the store. Judith Bright is a jewelry shop. When you make a purchase, part of the proceeds go to one of the following charities: The Nashville Humane Society, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and many more. Imogene + Willie is a small shop for jeans with a unique story behind it.
Although this is the end of our journey, for now, we will pick up again soon and dig into more neighborhoods in Nashville.
Stay tuned.
