On Monday, two more Republican senators came out against the GOP’s healthcare plan to repeal and replace Obamacare. This essentially killed the bill. Now that it is dead, Republicans thought the next best thing would be to just repeal Obamacare, throwing twenty million people off insurance, and spend two years coming up with a replacement plan. When President Obama was in office, the Republicans voted over sixty times to repeal Obamacare knowing full well that Obama would veto the bill. Now that the Republicans control Congress, the Senate, and the White House, they can’t seem to pass one single piece of major legislation. They’ve been the opposition party for eight years, have they forgotten how to govern?
Perhaps it’s the Russian investigation that is distracting everyone from their agenda? Just these last couple of weeks we are finding out more and more about this meeting that Donald Trump Jr. held with former Russian intel guys to get opposition research on Hillary Clinton. We found out a new person who attended the meeting almost every day. The most recent person we found out about is a former banker who embezzled money for the Russian government. Yeah, this guy was in this meeting with Junior, Manafort, and Kushner. Unlike what is being said by the White House, every day Americans are concerned with whether the President and his campaign colluded with the Russian government during the election.
Perhaps the reason why the Republicans cannot pass any legislation is because of Trump and his Twitter feed. Trump has been MIA while the Republicans tried to get this bill passed. Mitch McConnell, the GOP leader in the Senate, asked him to take a step back. But there is still the questions of Trump’s Twitter feed. For example, the White House spokesperson will say that the bill is coming along nicely and there are no hiccups. Trump will then take to Twitter sometimes the same day and will say something like “If the GOP cannot pass this healthcare bill we will have to work with Dems!” This guy is more consumed with Twitter than my thirteen-year-old niece.
I think the reason why is because the American people are angry. There are so many activists rising up and calling their senators and congressmen and women. Something this country hasn’t seen in a very very long time. Going to town halls and telling their representatives that they will not stand for this Republican agenda. Believe it or not, people love having healthcare. We must have forgotten when the Tea-party was rising up and trying to take over.
So thank God, or whatever you believe in, that this bill is almost dead. Republicans are going to try and just repeal Obamacare next week, but three Republican senators have already said they will vote against it. Hopefully they will stay firm and vote “no.” There are many people who need Obamacare, there is no reason why we should get rid of it. There are some things wrong with the Obamacare bill. Premiums need to come down, but why can’t Republicans work with Democrats to fix this? Why should you through out a perfectly good plan that needs some work and start from scratch? Hopefully Republicans will face defeat and work to fix Obamacare.
