After my freshman year of college, I went on a diet to lose the weight I had gained over the year. Freshman 15 was very real for me. I cut out a lot from my diet, lessened portions, and exercised way more, and ended up losing about 20 pounds.
If you are looking to lose weight as well, here is one of my biggest tips for you: do not drink your calories.
Let’s look at a typical American’s day:
1. Wake up in the morning and have a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. ~50 calories.
2. Have a glass of orange juice with your lunch. ~100 calories.
3. Drink a Jamba Juice smoothie in the afternoon. ~200-500 calories.
4. Have a can of soda with dinner. ~140 calories.
5. Drink two glasses of wine at night. ~246 calories.
In this day, a person would consume a total of 750-1050 calories from drinking alone.
Here are some more of your favorite drinks:
One shot of vodka = ~85 calories
One can of Redbull = ~166 calories
One bubble tea drink = ~180 calories
One glass of whole milk = ~150 calories
One bottle of Gatorade = ~100 calories
If you can, stop drinking all these altogether. Water is 0 calories and is all you need. If you need energy, drink coffee or tea without sweeteners or cream - it’ll be 0 calories. Juice your own fruits and blend your own smoothies. Lots of retail locations will add excessive sweeteners and powders. Cutting out drinks will save you money and protect your oral health.
Chances are, you drink a lot more of your calories than you thought you did. Make the switch to healthier drinking habits! Happy dieting!
