I Didn't Vote And I'm Tired Of Feeling Like I Should Be Ashamed

I know that God has got this, so please don't pressure me to feel ashamed about my choices.

I don't think I've ever seen this much hype over a Senate election in Texas before. Quite frankly, I've never been much of a political person. I mean, yes, I tend to sway one way with my views and opinions, but my opinions aren't ever strong enough to control on how I live my life in any way, shape, or form.

And before you ask, I am perfectly aware that it's my civic duty to vote and blah blah blah. I've heard it several times today from Twitter, Google, and even my professors.

Do you know what's also my choice? Not exercising my right to vote.

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you're required to do so. First of all, as a college student, I didn't have time to register to vote where I'm currently living. Thus I would have to drive home for the day just to cast my ballot. And I wasn't prepared enough to send in an absentee ballot beforehand.

Secondly, everyone is so wrapped up in politics, and I'm tired of it. There are stickers, t-shirts, signs, and you can name the rest of the things that I forgot. I support your right to practice free speech, but I'm getting so tired of people making fun of one another for their Beto or Cruz stickers on their laptops.

Or, I know some of y'all do this, and as soon as you see a yard sign or a sticker, in your head, you go "oh, they support Beto/Cruz so they're great/terrible people". We're SO QUICK to judge other people based on their political opinion and determine what kind of people they must be because of how they feel about a political candidate. I even caught myself doing it a few weeks ago.

Third, I don't believe that my political ideas have anything to do with my identity. My identity will be and always has been A Child of God. I didn't vote because I know that my God will take care of me, regardless of who's in charge. I trust His future plans for my life more than I trust any politician.

I don't believe that politicians hold any power over the ultimate power of my God, and I can definitely be praying for whoever my new Senator is.

Instead of pressuring people to vote, why don't we ask people to start praying for the person that gets elected? I haven't read about anything encouraging prayer. I've only read slander about each of the candidates and the opinions of those on the internet.

I'm not an informed citizen, but I am an informed believer. I know that God has got this, so please don't pressure me to feel ashamed about my choices.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
