Nothing makes me more upset than people telling me that I chose an "easy" major. In my personal opinion, there are no "easy" majors. Every major is very important and it takes a certain person to pursue those particular career paths. Not everyone is made to be a doctor or a firefighter. I just happen to know that Education is where I needed to be.
I work at the Kaleidoscope afterschool program at Busit Academy and I love the kids that I work with. I don't say that just because I want to. I really would do anything for these kids as much as I would do anything for my family. I am so blessed to have a job that I love and feel accomplished every day I leave. I know I have left an impact on at least one child's life.
Let's talk about my kids. I don't know if I am allowed to say any names because I work for the school district so I will make up names. I have one student that actually encouraged me to write the article.
Let's call him D. He says I HAVE TO give him all the credit for the article so D is the one who encouraged me to write this article. D has a great soccer foot but also knows how to listen to direction very well. Now let's talk about my bookworm S. S is always reading when he gets the chance. I have actually seen him finish a book in one sitting in less than 30 minutes and explain the entire plot to me.
Another bookworm could be C. C always is giving you a hug and cracking a funny joke. There is also S who is always there to assist me in any way possible right there beside L who sometimes thinks she is the boss.
I write all of these descriptions to tell you that every single one these kids have a different personality and a different story. You can not treat or teach these kids all in the same way.
Sometimes they need one on one and sometimes they are better in a group setting.
Some of someone telling them exactly how to solve a problem and some like to find out how to do this on their own. My job as a teacher is to find out who these kids are and teach them accordingly. I also have to create lesson plans and be able to teach the material they need in an entertaining way to keep the small attention span of 1st and 2nd graders occupied.
In conclusion, DO NOT tell me that I choose an "easy" major because I did not nor did anyone else.
