Detox Your Life In Just One Week

Be free of toxicity in your life.

I am relatively young, and it can be argued that I haven’t necessarily been through enough life changing events to have really “lived.”

However, despite adults saying 'I’ve yet to experience all of life’s mishaps,' I believe we could all use a detox.

I’m not talking about fancy water with a bunch of fat burning fruit in it, nor am I talking about drinking apple cider vinegar, but rather a cleansing of your life.

This is more than drinking juice or not eating junk food. This detox means to rid of the toxins throughout your entire life, not just your nutrition.

You deserve peace, self-discovery, and ultimate content-ness each and every single day. Not to say that every day will be great, or life wont slap you in the forehead every once in a while, but detoxing what negativity does linger there will ultimately help you become more in tune with yourself.

The steps outlined in this article will help you achieve this in just one week.

It is proven that reading for just six minutes a day can lower your stress levels by two-thirds. So, actually make time in the morning or in the afternoon to sit back, unwind and enjoy a good read. Also, a couple of other things you should do is make time to see your friends, and share your worries with them -- because there is nothing greater than confiding in someone you trust. Try to go to bed at the same time every night, and don’t say yes to every invite that comes your way.

This day you should declutter your home. You only wear 70% of what’s in your drawers, so try to get rid of the other 30%. You can donate the clothes and things you no longer use to charity, sell them, and ladies can throw away all old dried up make up and bathroom toiletries.

Dedicate this day to removing negative people from your life. Although it’s easier said than done, seeing we build connections with people over time and don’t wish to sever these relationships, who we surround ourselves with are a typically a reflection of ourselves. So, identify positive and negative relationships in your life, stop calling fake friends, and spend time with the people who help you achieve your goals.

Use Thursday to changing your tech habits. Try turning your phone off an hour before you go to bed and get a great night's rest. In addition to this, ban devices from the dinner table, switch off all notifications, and limit your social media use to 60-90 minutes a day.

This day you should switch off from work. Our brains can only focus for 90 minutes at a time, therefore we need 15 minute rest intervals throughout the day to keep our brains recharged. Therefore, get a hobby to take your mind off work. This is a very simple feat to becoming stressed out and exhausted from work.

Exercise! The average adult should spend 150 minutes a week doing moderate intensity exercise to reap the benefits, in bursts of at least 10 minutes. So, go for a run at the park, or run around your neighborhood.

Try eating healthier. You should eat anywhere between 0.5-1kg per week if you want to shed fat. In order to do this, burn more calories than you eat by exercising, plan alcohol-free days during the week, swap creamy sauces for tomato based or low fat ones, etc.

Starting is always the hardest part. Make this one week plan the first step in your detox plan.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
