When We Deny Ourselves, We Gain God As Our Forever

God is different than us, and that is a good thing.

God is different than people. Honestly, sometimes it is so easy to forget that He isn't like us. We often like to equate His love or His actions as being conditional. But the truth is that they are unconditional. Unlike us, His love does not punish, but it protects. His love does not challenge us, but it does change us. God is so unlike us, that it even goes beyond our comprehension. I think when we as sons and daughters get caught up in the how and why of His love for us, we begin to lose sight of how big, deep and wide that it is.

God's love empowers, embraces, changes and grows. I often see His love in rain. When we ask for growth He makes it rain. When we ask for change, He moves mountains. We need to remember that God is not like us. Not in how He acts, not in how He chooses whom He loves. We were chosen by God. When we realize that, it carries weight. Isaiah 43:4, "Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore, will I give men for thee, and people for thy life." God just wants us. He wants every part of ourselves. For His glory, for His love.

Through all of this, we have a decision to make. Will we continue to run from Him or run to Him? We need Him for our weaknesses, and for our decisions. We need Him for our futures and for our pasts. We need God. Sons and daughters, I ask that you will not only embrace how crazy and amazing God's love is but embrace our own need for Him. It is when we embrace, that we grow. It is in the realization that we become rooted and grounded. It is in the past and future, that we see His steady hand. Embrace today, just because God is. Make God your oxygen today. Rely on His unfailing love and choose to let yourself go. When we deny ourselves, we gain God as our forever.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
