On March 26, 2018, I attended Demi Lovato's "Tell Me You Love Me Tour" at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
After seeing her perform for the first time in early 2014, more than four years ago, I knew and told myself I couldn't miss a single tour afterward for the rest of her career. As crazy it sounds, I have not so far and don't plan on it.
Demi Lovato has one of the greatest voices of this generation. Although some may criticize her regarding other aspects of her life, no one can take away the fact that she has an incredible talent and inspires millions around the world. The power of her voice is something that can be incredibly hard to find, especially now, in the music industry and should be appreciated more.
Besides her vocal talent and genuinely loving personality, Lovato is an activist. Regarding the importance of talking about mental health, she has does not shy away from sharing her story and wants others to know despite how they feel and what they are going through, they are not alone.
Each and every tour she has done since opening up about her personal experiences, Lovato has taken the time to address the crowd and assure them that they are loved and on this planet for a reason.
Many artists fail to open up about their personal lives and struggles because it is, in fact, terrifying for the public to know about subjects they may not even be comfortable sharing with their closest friends and family. However, despite this, Lovato recognizes the importance of letting her fans and the general public know that there are other people experiencing the same thing and that she believes in them.
Another reason Demi Lovato is one of the most powerful artists currently is because she is also an incredible role model. People find a sense of comfort in Lovato because of her kind-hearted manner, openness and impressive recovery. She is not afraid to be herself and expresses these feelings in her music. For example, "Sorry Not Sorry."
Lovato has inspired millions, including me, with her story and her music. She is a talented, strong and independent woman that deserves all of the support in the world. An artist who truly wants to make a change and help people, like Lovato, is something the industry currently needs more of.
She is making a positive change and although many say that is "expected" of an artist, it is not necessarily what is occurring currently. The world of music provides both artists and fans with a variety of opportunities that should be appropriately taken advantage of. One of these being artists using their platforms for good. However, some tend to use it for shameless fame and attention. We need more activism and role models in a world that can be quite intimidating and scary.
For all of those reasons and more, I want to say thank you, Demi Lovato. For being an activist, a talented artist, and a genuine soul who continues to inspire me everyday.
