Delta Zeta Region X Region Weekend

39

Imagine hundreds of your sorority sisters from different chapters all in one room from all over the country. You've always wondered if they were all the same. Well, at Delta Zeta Region weekend we found out that every chapter is unique and brings something different to the table.  Over the weekend, from March 21 to March 22, Delta Zeta’s Region X held their Region Weekend and Great Western Alumnae weekend in Long Beach, Calif.

In Region X, there are a total of 13 chapters ranging from all over California to Idaho. The weekend was full of great sisterhood bonding throughout all of the chapters and programming events to help better all of the chapters in the future.

The first day of the event was a house tour of the California State Long Beach Delta Zeta house and then a movie on the beach. This was a great way to get acquainted with sisters from the different chapters and made me realize that even though we are all in different chapters, we are still sisters. It was really cool to see us all together and interacting with one another.

The next day began bright and early at 8 a.m. for registration and a wonderful presentation of “Living Our Values” by Cindy Holmes. Four programming sessions followed: The Next Chapter, Motivating The Middle, Fierce Conversations & Effective Communication and Social Media & Communication. These sessions opened my eyes to what a sorority has in store and what I can do as a member and leader. As a new member and only my second semester as a Delta Zeta, I really went into all of these sessions with an open mind and wanted to learn everything possible to help my chapter succeed.

At lunch, there was an award ceremony for the college chapters and alumnae. The Gamma Omicron San Diego State Chapter of Delta Zeta brought back a few awards, such as an individual member award for one sister with a 4.0, great philanthropy success and the Focus award for improving the chapter. This was the first year the Gamma Omicron chapter received awards at Region Weekend, so it was a very touching moment for all of the sisters.

A round table discussion for every sorority position was next. As the academics chair for my sorority I attended that round table discussion and met fellow academic chairs from the other chapters. It was very encouraging and helpful to learn new tips to instill academic success, hear their stories of success and share mine.

The event ended with dinner and games to engage all of the different chapters. I thought it was a great success because by the end of the night, everyone was having a great time and it didn’t seem to matter what chapter you were from because being a Delta Zeta means that we are all sisters for life.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
