I Deleted Twitter And Instagram For A Week, And Lived To Tell The Tale

It was the most productive week I've had in a while.

As dramatic as it sounds making the decision to delete the Instagram and Twitter apps off of my phone for a week was actually pretty hard. Living in a world that is revolved around likes, favorites, and constant posting was starting to get to the best of me. I was consumed by this need to check my phone constantly, so I decided to give myself a break and see how long I could go without using the two social media outlets that got more attention from me than the actual people in my life.

Surprisingly, it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be.

Day 1

The first day was definitely the hardest. Every single time I had some free time in my day I had the strong urge to check my phone. Unlocking my phone every single time and not seeing Twitter or Instagram felt really...weird. I know, I'm so very dramatic.

Days 2-4

The next few days honestly weren't that hard. I got used to unlocking my phone and not sliding over to where Instagram and Twitter usually were. I actually saw a huge spike in my productivity. Getting my homework done super early meant more time for napping, and I love me some naps.

Days 5-7

By the fifth day, I didn't even think about checking my phone. I had all of my homework done for the next week or so and felt like I could do anything. From that day on it felt like a breeze. Sure, I couldn't look at all the memes my friends sent me on Twitter but by the end I wasn't even thinking about it.

Moral of the story, deleting social media for a week really wasn't all that bad. After the seven days were over I redownloaded the apps and actually didn't really look at them that much. I know that nobody in this day and age can really give up social media for good. How else are you supposed to stalk that cute guy from one of your classes if he doesn't have social media? All I know is that living without social media on my phone was actually the most productive week I've had in a long time. It was a really nice break from constantly reading what other people are doing or posting. I actually just deleted the apps from my phone again until I feel like checking them again. You know what that means? Endless naps for me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
