The Definitive Check-List For Your Response To A Mass-Shooting
Courtney Hedger

Another day, another mass-shooting in the great United States. Even though these events are becoming pretty common, I thought I would do you all a solid and put together a check-list to ensure that — when in doubt — you're responding in the appropriate American way.

1. Have You Sent Your Thoughts And Prayers?

These are always appreciated. Everyone knows that you're praying extra hard, and I'm sure they appreciate the effort.

2. Have You Gotten Into A Heated "Discussion" About Gun Control?

How are our problems going to get solved if we don't yell about it on Facebook? Extra points if you have to unfriend or block someone because of it.

3. Have You Shared That One Article From 'The Onion'?

You know the one...

4. Or How About That One About Australia's 'Oppressive Regime'?

5. If You're A Writer: Have You Written Pieces About The Shooter With "Exclusive" Information...

...Which may or may not be accurate? Again, this only applies if you're a writer or journalist. Bonus points if you add opinions into your piece(s). Even more points if you disguise them well.

6. Have You Shared Articles About Gun Control?

However, they must only be pieces that support your side. It is critical that you do not flip-flop on this.

7. Have You Posted A Status On Facebook About It?

Don't forget to talk about how sick it is that events like these have become a normal part of our society. If you need help coming up with a status, here are a few cookie-cutter responses to choose from:

"I can't believe this has become normal."

"Don't ever let yourself become numb to events like this."

"How sick is it that I see this, and it's just everyday news now?"

TIP: Add some flair by adding your thoughts and prayers in these, too!

8. Have You Contemplated Moving To Another Country?

9. Talk About This Shooting For About A Week

Turn off your phone, go to sleep, wake up and go to work. Maybe talk about the shooting for a week. Two, at most.

10. After About A Week: Stop Talking About It

Forget about it until the next one... or until the next argument about gun control pops up on Facebook.

* * *

And that's it! If you've done all of these things: Congratulations! You've just responded to a mass-shooting like a proper American.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
