We have moved on from winter break and are now saying hello again to school, work and the hours of endless studying and stress we all have to endure.
Sometimes our workload, friendships and jobs just seem like so much to keep up with! But, what if there were five simple ways to relieve some of that daily stress instantly? Well, look no further!
I have compiled a few of the easiest ways to de-stress and declutter your life. I have used all these activities to keep me organized and mentally healthy throughout the year, and I am happy to be sharing these easy tips with everyone.
1. Unfollow, delete and block away!
You may be thinking that going to your favorite social media has nothing to do with destressing or organizing your life, but it does! One of my favorite things to do is to go on unfollowing and deleting sprees on my social media accounts. It may sound silly, but hear me out.
It's a social media world we live in today, and some of us follow people we don't necessarily even like or want to see! I know I have been scrolling through my phone for hours at times just hate-stalking a girl who is WAY prettier than me or that boy who called me ugly in sixth grade. There's no use for that negativity, though.
Deleting or removing people who make you feel bad about yourself (whether that is intentional or not) can totally improve your life! After you go on your own unfollowing spree, you'll realize what content from friends you actually want to see and feel relieved when you never have to compare yourself to others again.
2. Clean out your closet
Yes, this technique DOES require you to get out of bed. I'm sorry!
Cleaning out your closet may seem mundane, however, it can be fun going through all your clothes. Every morning you won't have to wake up digging through mounds of clothes and pajamas you never wear in the first place if you just organize your closet.
The easiest methods I've seen are creating three piles of your belongings: clothes to donate, clothes to keep and clothes to put in the garbage. Pick up every item and really think about how often you would wear it.
Once you minimize your clothes and shoes you'll be left with pieces you truly love and feel good in. A bonus of doing this is when you wake up late for your class, you can find a cute outfit ASAP.
3. Organize your desk
Let me set the scene for you. Your desk has papers strewn all over it, your makeup is all over the top of it from this morning, you have about 1,700 lotions in your bottom drawer that you never use and you lost your flash drive in the heaping mounds of junk you have in that center drawer where your laptop should be.
The desk.
Your desk is a mess, to say the least. If you're like me and you live in a dorm room, you understand you don't have a ton of storage, so the first place you tend to go to drop your stuff is your desk. I get it, we all make mistakes.
To fix your desk disaster is an easy process. I personally like to remove everything from my desk and drawers and place it on the ground. I tend to separate objects and papers and place them into groups. A place for my important papers, a place for assignments and then office supplies, etc.
Once you remove all the papers and objects you no longer need, the workload seems FAR less heavy, and you'll find a spot made perfectly for your sticky notes and paper clips galore!
4. Use your cell-phone
Get organized my stressed little babies, and put your cell-phones to use for more than just your dog filters and Instas! Yes, it's the digital age...use that to your advantage. When you find that you have appointments coming up, assignments to complete or plans with friends put it on your calendar right away!
I know plenty of us use planners and do it the ole' fashioned way, but using a written planner just isn't practical in some instances. Keep everything together, your whole schedule can appear in one click!
5. Take it one day at a time
I know plenty of us experience acute stress daily. De-cluttering can help ease the stress and labors of the day, sure, but it doesn't fix everything. I get that. My final tip is to keep reminding yourself that there are only 24 hours in a day, and you're not perfect.
You're not always going to get everything done. However, it's important to do your best, work your hardest and relax once in a while. These tips are meant to relieve some stress, but not all of it.
If you just focus on the single day ahead of you, I can assure you that you will no longer feel so overwhelmed. Thinking about the next 24 hours is much easier than thinking five years ahead and what your future child's name is going to be. Take a breather, not everything is permanent.
Good luck my friends!
