When I was younger, all I wanted to do was be a grown up. It looked like so much fun. You can stay up as late as you want. You can eat whatever you want. But as I have gotten older, there's so much I wish I could tell my younger self. I like being an adult, but sometimes, I wish I could go back in time for a little bit and enjoy the moments of just being a kid. If I had the chance to go back in time right now, these are just a few things I wish I could tell my younger self.
1. Make the right decisions.
The things you do now may seem fun and not that big of a deal, but when you get older, those things can come back and bite you in the butt.
2. Listen to you parents.
You might think they are just trying to kill your vibe, but they were your age once, believe it or not.
3. Those high school dances don't mean anything when you graduate.
It may seem like an important thing, and since everyone is going, you must go too. Wrong. College applications don't ask if you went to all your high school dances. It's OK to miss a few.
4. Living at home is a gift.
Growing up, I just thought that bills were just something silly. But being in college and having my own apartment and other bills, the struggle to scramble together rent money is real.
5. Again with living at home, food does not just magically appear in the kitchen.
Being in college and going to the store is hard. Of course, I really want those honey buns, but do I need them? No. OK, maybe I do need them.
6. Don't stress over the petty fights you had with friends when you were growing up.
To be honest, I don't even remember some of the fights I've gotten into with friends. There are more important things to worry about.
7. Quality family time.
You may think, "Oh my gosh, my family is so annoying with all the quality time. All I want to do is hang out with my friends." Being in college has made me miss those times. I can't go home every weekend, but the times I do go home are times well spent.
8. More importantly, LOVE YOURSELF.
I know that it's easier said than done, but with all these magazines telling young girls that they need to be skinny in order to be beautiful, it should at least be said. We are all beautiful, and no one can take that away from us.
