To the party ‘mom’

“Where did she go?” “What’s did she do?” “Yeah, give me one second.” “Please, drink this water.” Not everyone is fit to be a mom and not everyone is fit to be the party mom. Whether you’re a boy or a girl, one of you in each friend group is the coveted ‘Party Mom’.

Too many times you go to a party or an event to have a good time. There’s alcohol or some type of drug and everyone decides to partake. It seems like you never get to have as much fun as everyone else but despite that, you play a very important role in all of your friends' lives. Whichever kind of mom you are below you’re still important.

Without you, Katherine over there will have taken her sixth shot and end up in the back room being taken advantage of being labeled as a statistic. But thanks to you and the care you have given her all night that won’t happen.

Because you are there, Lauren won’t end up going home with Lucas and passing out. When she wakes up the next morning in your bed rather than his, she will thank you for not letting her make a huge mistake because her boyfriend didn’t go to the party.

Scars and broken bones tell a story of course, but Todd and his parents will only love you more for making sure he didn’t swing on that chandelier, through the window, and into the pool because ‘no balls’ is a valid argument, right? The life you saved is better in the long run.

Sabrina will be mad at you and fight you the entire way home for making her switch to water but the next day when she can wake up and go to her 9 a.m. she will be thankful she isn’t throwing up all over herself in the bathroom missing class.

Though they are thankful, and you might feel good for being there, you have to remember to live for you too. This doesn’t mean getting drunk on a tuesday and making someone be the mom who has never done it before or just letting everyone die.

This means making people understand that they are their own person and need to take care of themselves. You can have fun while others have fun too and everyone can be an adult.

Just because you are the mom doesn’t mean you’re a party pooper. You’re important too just don’t forget about yourself sometimes. And if you don’t want to go with them, don’t go. Even moms need some time to themselves.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
