Dear high school seniors,
please take advantage of living at home and the breeze of high school work. I know it seems tough right now, but trust me college is a whole new world.
Be nice to your mama because you are going to call her daily and you are always going to need your dad's help with homework. Be thankful for your phone whether it is an Android or iPhone because without being able to talk to your family 24/7 you would drown in the chaos.
It really is not as bad as some people make it out to be. You will realize however that people's repetitive questions about your major, university, and roommates will be terribly irritating, but there is always a small part of you that will love to talk about it. Also, eat all the home cooked meals you can, it is something you will miss the most when you leave home. The cafeteria food is definitely better than your high school, but it still is not anything like the comfort food you are used to. You will realize that the great value brand is always the way to go and ramen noodles will save you from starvation. Dollar tree becomes your Walmart and Publix is only an option when they have a BOGO sale.
There is a big difference in an 8am class and a 9am. Always strive for the 9am class, you will thank me later. Buying textbooks will cost you your soul, first born child, and the hearts of your enemies. Start saving now.
You are going to make lots of new friends, some will stay throughout your college life and others will leave. It's okay because you will love to see everyone following different career paths. It is a whole new experience with your friend groups in college rather than high school, you discover your full potential and can completely be yourself.
If you are a freshman never be afraid to ask a million questions, always sit in the front no matter how scary your professor is, and take tons of notes. It is never worth it to skip an extra credit opportunity, you will realize how important it is by the end of the semester when your grade is border lining between a B and C.
When you meet someone with the same major as you it is almost an instant friendship. You will have more in common with them about classes than anyone else. If you haven't gotten the groupme app, you may as well download it now because college peers use it for everything. It's great for asking classmates a quick question about an assignment instead spending 20 minutes composing the most professional email possible for your picky professor.
The first few weeks will be terrifying and you are going to struggle with time management. It's okay, everyone does. Eventually, you will have a perfect routine and your semester will run smoothly. Join clubs, and have fun. You will have homework constantly, but you will also still have time for the things you love.
So dear high school senior, let go of all your stress and nervousness, you will have all the time in the world for that in the next four years, enjoy this time.
