Dear Second Semester Seniors, Don't Wish it Away

Life's a journey and you're in the final chapter of the adventure known as high school. Do yourself a favor and write a happy ending.

Dear High School Seniors,

Hey! How are those 8 period class days with a dress code going for ya? Sorry, I shouldn't poke fun, I was once in your (closed toe, dress code appropriate) shoes not that long ago! And trust me, I know how crazy of a life you're leading right now.

You've either committed to the school of your dreams and are literally a walking bookstore of apparel, or you're pretty certain you are going to have a heart attack before you can decide on what college is your perfect fit. But more than anything, you're wishing you could just fast forward through these last few months and get on with your life.

Whatever you do, don't wish this time away.

I know all through the holidays, people kept telling you to get ready because college will be the best four years of your life. And spoiler alert, they're right, college is pretty fabulous. But that doesn't mean that this last semester is pointless! (Okay, yeah that giant research paper you'll have to write in late April will be pretty pointless, but besides that...)

These next few months will be a unique time to reflect on your four years of high school. To cherish the lessons, smile at the memories, and to truly live in the moment.

You have about five more months as a high schooler. That's it. Five months. Roughly 150 days to spend with the classmates you've grown up with, learn from the teachers who have become your mentors, and to come home to freshly prepared meals shared with your family. So please, stop stressing. I promise you things will work out how they're supposed to and that you will be okay. Life's a journey and you're in the final chapter of the adventure known as high school. Do yourself a favor and use these 150 days to write yourself a happy ending.

So my dear high schoolers, I'll end this letter with a quote from a truly inspiring person I think we all can relate to:

"'You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. ~Wayne Gretzky' ~Michael Scott."

Don't miss this shot to make the most of your last days of high school because you're too busy waiting for the college puck. It'll be sliding your way soon enough, and you'll be more than ready to give it your best slap shot. But right now, slip your feet into those uniformed approved shoes, grab your books for your eight-period class day, and take that last shot of high school. You won't regret it.

See you on campus in a few months!

Sincerely,

Someone who was once in your (uniform approved) shoes

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
