Dear Future Me

An open letter to myself

Life right now, as a college student is, in a word, stressful. There’s school and work and trying to manage a social life and spend time with family too. Sometimes it seems like I don’t have time for half of the things I need to do and it gets exhausting. Sometimes I can’t see how I’ll ever actually graduate and get a job better than waitressing, but I know that eventually all of that will happen for me.

Dear Future Me,

You probably have a lot more stress on your plate than I do now. You’ve probably graduated, gotten a good job, and now you’re stuck with bills and adult problems. Even with all of that, I hope you’re having fun. I hope you’re still going to concerts and taking road trips with your friends.

I hope you don’t take life too seriously. Yeah, I get that paying bills and being an adult isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but if you forget to joke about it every now and then you won’t have a very happy life. Joke about the things that sometimes make you want to cry. Life is too short to not find the humor in life.

I hope you take chances. I’ll admit, I’m not the most outgoing person right now, but I’m working on it. Life is too short to overanalyze everything. I don’t want to wake up one day and wonder what would have happened if I took a chance on something I really wanted rather than playing it safe. I hope you live life to the fullest and stop trying to do what people expect from you. If you do that, then your life isn’t really yours.

I hope you’re proud of yourself. You have overcome a lot and you’ve toughed it out when things go difficult rather than giving up. I know sometimes you wanted to. You’ve come out of every challenge stronger than ever. You’ve kept going even when it felt like there was no light at the end of the tunnel. I know it hasn’t always been easy.

I hope you never settled. You know what you deserve and I hope you go for it. I hope you never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something, and if they do then I hope that you prove them wrong. You can do anything you set your mind to and I hope you realize that. Just believe in yourself and you will end up where you’re supposed to be.

I hope you have some amazing friends. I know you have a lot of great friends right now, but who knows what could happen in the future. Make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them for dealing with your craziness on a daily basis.

Finally, and most importantly, I hope you are happy with your life. I know you have goals and dreams and I hope you make at least some of them happen. I hope you get the chance to travel and see new things and I hope you follow your heart because it will take you to where you need to be.

See you soon.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
