Dear Grandma, My Best Friend
Kayla Ruth Bishop

Dear Grandma,

I miss you. Everything I am about to tell you, I wish you were here for. You were always a great supporter in anything your grandchildren or family did. I miss calling you on the phone when I needed to talk, so now I am writing you so that bond between us does not end.

I am now a senior in college which is CRAZY! I am going to school at Illinois State University to be a Special Education teacher and I am absolutely loving it. I always think of you when I am at school because I know teaching was one of your passions as well. I am so thrilled to be following in your footsteps. I also have my own apartment, and I am so lucky that I get to say that I live with my best friends! If I am not at home with them, I am at the local coffee shop studying.

Shelby is going to be a sophomore in college and she is currently coming back from an ACL injury that happened in her last high school game. She actually gets cleared next week and will finally be playing with her teammates again! You would be proud of her, she is playing on scholarship and is going to school to become a registered nurse. She has awesome grades and I always tell her how proud you would be of her. Some days she will call me and say, “I wish I could call grandma right now, I got an A+ on my exam,” and we would talk about how happy you would be. She has a boyfriend named Cris, and you would love him. He truly makes her happy which I know is what you would want for any of your grandchildren. As you know, Shelby has always been a jokester and that is exactly what her boyfriend is. They are perfect for each other. And my dad loves him which is always good! She always tells Cris how much you would love him. You would be very proud of her, because I know I am.

Now, this is the craziest part, but Casey is driving!! I know what you’re thinking, “Who put her behind the wheel?” Well, she is actually an amazing driver and you would be so proud! She is about to be a junior in high school and is on the Junior Varsity soccer team. During the summer, we work together at this local pool which is super fun because not a lot of siblings get to work together and actually say that they enjoy it. She is super tall and absolutely gorgeous. She is so tall and we always tell her to start modeling, and I know you would tell her the same exact thing. She also has a boyfriend (I know, I’m the only single one) and his name is Tony! He plays baseball at their high school and they make each other happy. We all miss you, I know Casey misses you the most. When Shelby and I are away at school, Casey wishes she could call you and come over whenever she feels like she needed to. She loves you, and I know you miss and love her as well.

I miss you. You are my best friend. I know you are looking down on us all and I know you miss us just as much as we miss you. I hope you are bowling up there with your parents just as you would say and living your best life. I think about you daily and I will never forget you.

More,

Kayla

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
