Dear Entitled Customer,
Hello again. I'm assuming your morning is going a lot better than mine, or maybe not considering the way you decided to treat me. I don't know who peed in your cheerios but I sincerely hope this coffee I made you brightens your day just a little bit... or that you spill the coffee all over your white blouse.
I, as an employee, have a responsibility to ensure that you, as a customer, have a seamless and delightful experience at my place of employment and you make that exceedingly difficult when you decide to be rude.
For your information: yes, I would much rather watch paint dry than to make your quad shot iced skinny vanilla latte with two pumps of white mocha and light whip cream.
I don't appreciate your condescending tone as you tell me (God forbid) that you can't drink your vanilla bean frappucino because I forgot to put caramel drizzle on top –– oh, the humanity! I don't appreciate you yelling at me for simply stating company policy to you; I don't make the rules, I just follow them.
Yes, you may speak to my manager and I will stand by and hide a smile behind my hands as she tells you the EXACT same thing I told you two minutes ago. Contrary to what you might believe, the customer is not always right.
I simply don't understand your desire to make others feel less than. I'm sure you have, at some point, worked in a place of business and handled rude customers.
It didn't make you feel good, did it? I didn't think so.
Most employees work extremely hard to make sure every customer is satisfied and taken care of and it's infuriating to be belittled if things aren't done how and when you want them to. You're not the only person in the world, my friend.
Take a step back. Relax. Breathe.
I will make your complicated order and I will do it with a smile on my face. If I make a mistake I will fix it. There is no need to roll your eyes at me, throw your coffee at me, make rude comments or cuss me out. Your coffee is not bitter, you are.
So, in short, please be nice. I don't know what's happened to make you so sour at 4 o' clock in the afternoon, but I'm sorry for it. It's my job to make your day a little bit brighter, please don't make mine dimmer in the process. Thanks and here's your coffee.
Sincerely,
Your Friendly Neighborhood Barista
